Blood, Urine and Saliva Tests Explained

Specialized lab testing goes past a routine annual panel. We pick the markers that answer a specific question about your health, then the sample that answers it best.

Often the answer comes from reading two or three samples together rather than one result on its own.

BloodWhat is circulating right now
A blood draw shows nutrient and mineral levels, hormones, thyroid function, blood sugar, inflammation and immune markers at one moment in time. It is the base of most workups.
UrineWhat your body processes and clears
Urine adds information a blood draw does not, such as how certain hormones are broken down and how your body is handling toxic exposures. Some tests use a first-morning sample.
SalivaRhythms across the day
Saliva is collected without a needle and can be taken several times in one day. That makes it useful when a daily pattern matters more than a single reading, such as cortisol from morning to night.

When a Deeper Lab Workup Makes Sense

Many patients reach us after hearing that their labs look normal while their symptoms continue. Customized testing is built for that gap.

Sudden or severe symptoms, such as chest pain or blood in the urine, need emergency care first.

  • Fatigue that rest does not fix, including chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Lyme disease and other elusive chronic illness
  • SIBO, SIFO, IBS or histamine intolerance
  • Suspected mold illness or toxic overload
  • Hormone changes before bioidentical or homeopathic HRT
  • Signs of a nutritional or micronutrient deficiency

Lab Results With a Plan Behind Them

Walk-in labs run the test you order and send back a report. We start with your history, choose the tests and explain every result in the context of how you feel.

Specialized Lab Testing Questions

What is specialized lab testing?
It is testing chosen to answer a specific question about your health, rather than a standard panel run for everyone. We select blood, urine or saliva markers based on your symptoms and history, then read them together to look for the cause behind how you feel.
How is this different from a walk-in lab in Scottsdale, AZ?
A walk-in lab draws the sample for the test you order and sends you a report. With us, a clinician chooses the tests, explains every result in the context of your symptoms and turns the findings into a treatment plan. Results are also read beside EAV, thermography or HRV testing when those are part of your workup.
How much do specialized lab tests cost?
Cost depends on which tests your plan includes and which lab runs them. We go over pricing with you at your consultation, before anything is ordered.
Which lab tests will I need?
That is decided at your consultation, not from a menu. We review your symptoms, history, medications and any past labs, then order only the markers that answer your questions.
Do I need to fast before my lab test?
Some tests need fasting and others do not. Urine and saliva tests may also need a first-morning or timed collection. You receive clear instructions for each test when it is ordered, so your results are reliable.
Is saliva testing as reliable as a blood draw?
Each sample answers a different question. Saliva is useful when a pattern across the day matters, such as cortisol from morning to night, while blood shows what is circulating at a single moment. We choose the sample that fits what we need to learn.
Can you review lab results I already have?
Yes. Recent results help us see trends and avoid repeating tests you do not need. Bring them to your first visit and we will read them alongside your history.
